Acoustic Wave Therapy

Acoustic Wave Therapy is a new approach to combat the look of cellulite with the use of pressure waves. Cellulite is a skin condition that results from engorged fat cells trapped in a network of collagen located deep within the skin. The product of these engorged fat cells is unsightly lumpy dimpled skin that resembles the look of orange peels or cottage cheese. It appears most often on the hips, thighs, and buttocks. Over 80% of women are affected by this skin condition.

Acoustic Wave therapy works by mechanically vibrating the connective tissue with acoustic pulses to break up the collagen bands by causing them to stretch, increasing the elasticity of the tissue and releasing the areas of stored fat. This allows for increased blood flow to the treated area and smoother skin appearance. The therapy was originally intended to combat pain associated with poor circulation and stiff joints, when they realized the added benefits the procedure could provide. Protocol for treatment requires 2 sessions per week for 3 weeks. Bi-monthly maintenance sessions are then required to keep the smooth appearance. Results of improved skin texture, elasticity, circumference reduction and firming can be seen after the third or fourth treatment. There is no pain and no downtime.
