Anti Wrinkle
A wrinkle or rhytid is a ridge or crease in the surface of the skin. It is the most common form of visible aging. Wrinkles develop over time from consistent movement of the skin, smoking, poor hydration and decreased elasticity due to aging and sun damage. Every time one laughs, smiles, or frowns the skin creases or folds in a similar way. Repeating these motions over time causes the skin to remember and eventually this skin fold will remain even when the action is not being done. Rhytids are described 3 different ways: fine wrinkles are the superficial lines in the skin usually on the cheek area that appear like dry crepe paper, dynamic wrinkles which are the otherwise known as smile lines, frown lines, crow’s feet, laugh lines, forehead creases and lip wrinkles, and skin folds. Skin folds tend to be deeper and are wrinkles caused by laxity of the skin. They are usually referred to as marionette lines (lines that are formed from the corners of the mouth to the chin) or Nasolabial folds (from the corner of the nose to the mouth).
Wrinkles can be reduced in a variety of ways. The fine lines can be decreased or even eliminated with a good skin care regime, microdermabrasion, or light chemical peels such as alpha hydroxyl acid or micro peels. These work to remove the top dead layer of skin that often caused skin to look dry and dull. This dryness reflects the light making lines appear deeper than they are. Dynamic wrinkles and skin folds can be treated by several different methods: Injectables such as BOTOX® can be used for forehead rhytids to relax the muscles in that area thereby decreasing the appearance of wrinkles. Dermal fillers are used to plump up lines and folds by injecting a gel under the skin. The gels add volume to the depleted areas thereby eliminating the wrinkles temporarily. Laser skin resurfacing with fractional laser treatments and skin tightening laser treatments are also used to reduce the appearance of dynamic wrinkles and are also effective for the fine lines. The lasers work by causing a thermal injury under the skin to stimulate collagen which tighten the skin and decrease the wrinkles.
Surgical procedures such as face lifts, contour threads and brow lifts can also be performed to reduce wrinkles. No one treatment will eliminate all wrinkles, however combinations of treatments can produce an excellent cosmetic result.
