ArteFill, created by Artes Medical, is an FDA approved dermal filler used for the correction of fine lines and wrinkles. It is made up of PMMA microspheres, bovine collagen and a numbing medication for more tolerable application. PMMA is the material found in many of today’s medical implants. ArteFill is injected into the treatment area which plumps up the skin, eliminating the crease or wrinkle. This is the only filler on the market today that is unable to be reabsorbed. For most people not only does it help to correct wrinkles, it may even help to prevent further wrinkles. Because of its ingredients, a skin test is required to monitor for allergic reactions to either the collagen or the anesthetic.
