Body Lift
A Body Lift, also known as a Circumferential Abdominoplasty, is a very common procedure that many individuals undergo to remove excess skin and fat in order to re-contour the body. Loose, sagging skin and excess fat can be brought on by many different occurrences such as age, pregnancy, genetic skin conditions and rapid weight loss. For those who find that excess skin and fat is getting in the way or normal daily activities, a body lift may be the right procedure for you. There are several stages of a body lift; most often the procedure is broken down into two separate treatments: a lower body lift and an upper body lift.
Lower Body Lift: the lower body lift combines a tummy tuck with a thigh lift and a buttock lift. All three of these procedures require incisions in the respective areas. Excess skin and fat is then removed and the remaining skin is pulled tight and sutured back together. Removal of excess skin allows the areas of the lower body to be smoother, tighter and more contoured.
Upper Body Lift: the upper body lift combines a breast lift, arm lift, face lift (if needed but is considered separate) for the tightening of the upper body. Similar to the lower body procedure, excess skin and fat is also removed from these upper body areas in order to smooth and contour the skin.
The most important aspect of the Body Lift procedure is the resuspension of the Superficial Fascia Suspension System (SFS). This connective tissue network resides within body fat and is responsible for keeping the tissue elevated. As the skin sags and body fat becomes too overwhelming, this network fails. By resuspending the SFS system, the newly shaped skin will hold its elasticity and remain elevated for a longer period of time—this give your better Body Lift results. Before committing to the Body Lift procedure, thoroughly discuss all options with your physician in order to find the procedure that works for you. |
