Chin Surgery
Chin Surgery is quickly growing in popularity as more and more individuals are becoming concerned with their outward appearance. Genetics dictates our outward appearance and let’s face it, sometimes we get the short end of the stick on some of our features! It is true that our look is unique only to us, but sometimes individuals like to make improvements. One way to alter the structure of your face is through Chin Surgery. Mentoplasty and Genioplasty are surgical terms which refer to the reduction or augmentation of the chin respectively. Chin Surgery is often done in conjunction with a Rhinoplasty (nose surgery) in order to give balance to the structure of the face.
Genioplasty or chin augmentation can be accomplished with an implant or with bone advancement. Bone advancement is when the chin is extended and positioned with wires or a bone plate. The augmentation can be done for cosmetic purposes, congenital deficiency, age related bone re-absorption or facial trauma. The surgeon makes the incision in the inside of the lower lip or under the chin for the insertions and then area is closed with sutures.
Mentoplasty or chin reduction is performed by a surgeon and utilizes two different methods for the reduction of the chin area. During the procedure the surgeon will make an incision either the inside of the lower lip or under the chin, then a bone burr or drill is used to reduce and reshape the chin bone to create a more natural appearance. In addition, liposuction is oftentimes also utilized under the chin where excess fatty tissue is removed to redefine the chin or neckline. General costs for Chin Surgery can range anywhere from $3000-$4500 depending on the particular procedure you are undergoing.
