Cosmoderm
In 2003 the FDA approval was given to the Allergan company for Cosmoderm/Cosmoplast as the first and only human collagen dermal filler, for fine lines and lip borders. Since this injectible filler is made of human based collagen, it does not require a skin test prior to treatment. Additionally lidocaine, an anesthetic agent, has been added for increased patient comfort.
As we age our bodies begin to break down collagen, which gives skin its plump youthful appearance. Cosmoderm/Cosmoplast can be injected to fill in fine lines around the nose and mouth, lip lines and plumping of lips, with immediate results There is minimal to no downtime when using this filler.
Since Cosmoderm/Cosmoplast is made up of human based collagen, there is minimal risk of an allergic reaction. However some patients could react to the anesthetic, lidocaine, and therefore those with a lidocaine allergy should advise their practitioner. Minor side effects that may occur from dermal fillers are bruising, swelling and pain at site of injection. |
