Dermabrasion
Dermabrasion or surgical skin planning is a technique used by surgeons to resurface the skin. This procedure has been around for more than 100 years. It was first developed to improve scars from acne, accidents, or disease. Currently it is also used to correct, wrinkles, skin lesions, and pigmentation.
The treatment refinishes the skin by scraping off the top layers with a high speed abrasive brush in a controlled setting. Dermabrasion will help to alleviate the rough edges of skin irregularities and give a smoother softer more rejuvenated appearance. It can be used alone or in combination with other skin treatments such as facelifts, chemical peels and scar revisions to large or small areas of the face. The resurfaced skin gives a smoother rejuvenated appearance. Results are often dramatic and can be long lasting. Down time can be considerable with side effects including redness, swelling scabbing and itching possibly lasting a few weeks.
Dermabrasion can be done on both men and women of all ages, however there are some factors which need to be cautioned. Skin type and medical history need to be considered when having this procedure performed. People with darker complexions may have experience increased pigmentation problems. Discuss treatment options with your physician to determine if dermabrasion in right for you. |
