Laser Lipolysis
Laser lipolysis is a minimally invasive surgical technique that breaks up, liquefies and removes fat cells using laser light. The SmartLipo™, LaserTite and CoolLipo™ lasers are the most common in use today. This procedure offers benefits on par with traditional liposuction, although it is generally recommended for smaller more difficult to treat areas. This procedure has gained increased popularity for its exceptional results on jaw lines and the look of the double chin.
There are many advantages for laser lypolysis over traditional liposuction. First, it is gentler and safer, partly due to the much smaller cannula’s that are used to denature the fat. The smaller cannula’s mean smaller incisions, therefore limited chances of scarring. Finally, laser lypolysis generates heat, which causes a healing response within the tissue. This results in the skin contracting from inside, leaving skin tighter and smoother in the treated area. Since the traditional liposuction does not have a thermal response, it can often leave patients with uneven contours and loose, sagging skin.
Treatments with the laser lipolysis generally result in less swelling and bleeding as compared to the conventional method. Often the procedure can usually be performed less than one hour, without need for more sessions. After treatment, a pressure garment may be applied to help decrease swelling and normal activities can be resumed in as little as 24 hours. Results can be seen soon after the procedure, with treated areas appearing tighter and smaller, however the best results are usually seen within 6-8 weeks. Laser assisted lipolysis is ideal for localized pockets of fat or areas that have been resistant to traditional liposuction. Consult with your certified cosmetic professional to determine if laser assisted lipectomy is right for you. |
