Laser Teeth Whitening
Laser Teeth Whitening is a fantastic new alternative for removing stains and brightening teeth. As we age, our teeth age as well. Anything we put in our mouths: food, drinks, tobacco products, etc slowly takes a toll on the color of our teeth; dull yellow colored teeth can greatly affect the look of your smile. Laser Teeth Whitening has become a popular solution to a problem that only continues to grow. In the past, non-laser whitening methods have been effective but could not provide permanent results. Laser teeth whitening provides patients with a safe and easy alternative proven to last for years.
Laser teeth whitening is a simple and painless cosmetic dentistry procedure that leaves patients with a whiter, brighter smile. The treatment will begin by isolating the gums and lips in order to protect them from the laser light. Once the gums are isolated, your dentist will then apply a scientifically formulated gel that consists of ph balanced hydrogen peroxide. After the gel is applied to your teeth, the dentist will then take a laser or high intensity light source and direct it over the teeth. The laser light works to activate the gel, breaking the gel into a compound constituent consisting of water and a radical. Once the gel is in this state, the radical will append itself to stain molecules found on the teeth which will weaken the stain and allow oxygen to reach and whiten the enamel.
The Laser Teeth Whitening Procedure can take anywhere from one to two hours to complete. The time the procedure takes will depend largely on the location of stains, the overall condition of your teeth, the concentration of peroxide in the whitening gel and the laser that is used to perform the whitening procedure. The procedure itself will not cause you pain, but some patients do experience sore teeth and gums due to the bleach that is applied. If any pain is experienced, it should subside a few hours after the procedure; those patients with sensitive teeth are more likely to experience discomfort than those without.
After treatment, teeth will typically become six to ten shades whiter and sometimes even more. Patients will almost always experience a continuation in whitening for a few days following the Laser Teeth Whitening procedure. One single visit can provide dramatic results for anyone. If patients take proper care following their visit, whiter smiles will last for years. |
