LUX
The LUX 1540 or STARLUX 1540 is a Fractional skin resurfacing laser manufactured by Palomar Medical. Fractional skin resurfacing lasers are used to treat wrinkles, scars, pigmentation and sun damaged skin. As with all lasers utilizing the fractional technology, this laser works by asserting highly precise micro-beams of light that create deep thin columns in the epidermis and dermis treating only a “fraction” of the skin at a time. The beam of light heats the skin to cause inflammation and stimulate new collagen production, at the same time removing only a small portion of the skin.
The LUX 1540 offers minimal redness and discomfort as only 20-25% of the skin is treated at a time. Treatments can be done with or without anesthesia and takes only 30 minutes to complete a session. Since only portions of the skin are treated at one time, the light that penetrates the dermis is able to spare surrounding tissue. This non-ablative approach stimulates quick healing, while leaving the skin surface intact along with no lasting redness.
Additional benefits for the non-ablative fractional approach include better collagen production, fewer complications like hyperpigmentation, improved skin texture, decrease in pore size and wrinkle improvement. The results are more dramatic and effective when completed in a series of three treatments so all skin areas can be touched on.
