Mini Tummy Tuck
A Mini Tummy Tuck is a less invasive procedure than a traditional abdominoplasty and is well known for being a ‘scarless tummy tuck surgery’. The Mini Tummy Tuck, or partial abdominoplasty, is often an excellent option for those individuals who have a smaller amount excess of abdominal skin to be removed that simply will not react to diet and exercise. Abdominal area tissue and skin that is beginning to sag due to aging or slimmer abdomens that need to be sculpted into a more desirable shape are ideal situations for this less invasive surgery. This procedure is ideal for those individuals who are looking to correct minor abdominal imperfections in order to bring their shape back to normal.
Mini tummy tuck surgery will most often be performed under local anesthesia but it can be performed under general anesthesia if the situation warrants it. The length of incision made during the procedure will depend largely on how much excess skin, fat and tissue needs to be removed; mini tummy tucks are referred to as a ‘scarless’ surgery because the incisions are always smaller than that of a traditional tummy tuck and, in addition, the navel rarely needs to be repositioned so the scar does not remain as noticeable.
Like the traditional tummy tuck procedure, the surgery will begin with a horizontal incision that is made directly above the pubic area. The skin is then pulled back towards the rib cage and excess fat and tissue is trimmed off and suctioned out; if necessary, liposuction will also be used to remove excess fat and tissue. Unlike traditional tummy tuck surgery, a smaller section of the abdominal area will be exposed; often the skin is only pulled back to the navel area. Once the excess fat has been removed and the muscles have been tightened, the skin will be pulled back down, excess skin will be removed and the incision will be closed.
The downtime for a Mini Tummy Tuck is not as long as a traditional tummy tuck, patients will be able to return to work within a few days. Patients will experience some post-operative pain but this can be controlled with any number of over the counter medications. Patients can return to normal daily activities as the pain permits, but all should refrain from strenuous activity for at least a few weeks. Those who are dissatisfied with the current shape and tone of their abdomen should greatly consider the benefits of a mini tummy tuck. This procedure could have you looking and feeling great in no time. |
