ND:YAG
There are several lasers used for aesthetic purposes. Lasers have redefined how physicians treat their patients. They have revolutionized all fields of medicine, especially dermatology and cosmetic surgery. Of the many lasers on the market today, the Nd: YAG (neodymium-doped yttrium aluminum garnet) is one of the most common types that can be used for many applications.
The Nd: YAG laser uses a 1064nm (nanometers) wavelength of light. This laser is designed to effectively treat all skin types, including tanned skin which gives this technology unmatched treatment capabilities and options for tightening skin, reducing wrinkles, eliminating facial and leg veins and reducing unwanted hair. There are several models of aesthetic Nd: YAG lasers available such as the GentleYAG, Acclaim, Elite, CoolGlide, CoolTouch and GentleMax to name just a few.
For skin tightening, the Nd: YAG will treat below the surface of the skin, to cause internal inflammation and stimulate the natural production of collagen. The healing effects result in firmer more plumped skin, making the Nd: YAG an effective tool for firming and tightening the skin from the inside out with little to no down time. Two to four treatments are generally needed and results are seen gradually after the last treatment.
For laser hair removal the Nd: YAG can treat all skin types by bypassing the melanin in the skin to reach the hair follicles, thereby protecting the skin and eliminating the unwanted hair. Several sessions are generally needed to achieve the desired effect.
As with any procedure, cosmetic lasers have possible risks including blisters, scars, infections, hyper-pigmentation or hypo-pigmentation. Depending on your skin care needs, a consultation with a qualified laser specialist will assist you in determining if treatments with an Nd: YAG aesthetic laser is right for you. |
