Neck Lift
For those individuals who are starting to experience the natural signs of aging such as wrinkles, fine lines and sagging skin, a Neck Lift may be an option for obtaining smoother, tighter skin that lasts. One of the first areas age begins to show is the neck, often even before the face. Creases, banding and that crepe-y quality to the skin combine together to visibly age us. A neck lift is a set of surgical procedures that may remove excess fat and skin and remove or tighten muscles. Three separate procedures often come together to make up a comprehensive neck lift; liposuction, cervicoplasty and platysmaplasty.
Typically liposuction is done to remove fat. The cervicoplasty will remove excess skin through an incision under the chin and behind the ears. And with a platysmaplasty the surgeon will remove, reposition or tighten the muscles of the neck and decrease the banded appearance with incisions that are made under the chin, behind the ears or both. In some cases BOTOX cosmetic can be injected to relax the neck muscles (platysma muscle) instead of surgery.
A neck lift can be done alone or in conjunction with a facelift. The patient will undergo local or general anesthesia for this surgery. Side effects may include bruising swelling, and a feeling of tightness in the area. Post operative care may be cumbersome as there should be no strenuous work or exercise for 5-10 days. Also post operative neck lift patients need to avoid bending and lifting for first several weeks. Complications of this surgery include scarring, blood clots, numbness, itching, anesthesia risks, and recurrent loose skin. The average cost is between $3000 and $8000 and does not include the facelift portion if that is needed.
