Orthodontic Braces

Orthodontic Braces are a fantastic way to get straighter teeth and a perfect smile. Just as genetics causes us to inherit eye color from our parents, mouth and jaw features are also passed down. In addition, factors such as finger sucking, high cavity rate, gum disease, trauma and premature loss of baby teeth can also cause adults to form a bad bite. One out of every five school age children will experience a severe bite problem so it is very possible that you might need braces.

Orthodontic Braces not only give individuals a straighter more uniform smile, but they also protect teeth from possible future damage. Poorly arranged teeth that are left alone can break easily and are more likely to trap food particles that cause tooth decay and gum disease. Extensive research has concluded that misaligned teeth interfere with the chewing ability to break down foods which can affect digestion and overall health. In addition, poorly arranged teeth detract from your smile which is one of the most noticeable features of your face. Don’t forget…you only have one chance to make that first impression!

If you find that you have been genetically blessed with misaligned teeth, Orthodontic Braces at an early age are the perfect way to straighten out those pearly whites. Braces utilize steady, gentle pressure which, over time, moves teeth into their proper positions. Braces can be misleading because they don't look like they're doing much just sitting on your teeth but in fact, every moment or your orthodontic treatment, there's some type of movement happening in your mouth.

Orthodontic Braces are compromised of individual brackets connected by a main arch wire. Brackets will be placed on each of your teeth (or only some depending on the correction you are aiming for) and the main wire connects the brackets together. The bracket is made of a specially shaped metal or ceramic piece that is affixed to each tooth. Once the brackets are attached, the arch wire is bent to reflect your ideal bite-what you want your smile to look like after treatment. The wire will be threaded through the brackets and, as the wire tries to return to its original shape, it will apply pressure to actually move your teeth. Braces are not a quick fix for a crooked smile but over time, you’ll find that you can make a beautiful smile that is completely your own.
