Perlane
Perlane is the injectable dermal filler manufactured by Medicis, the same company that makes Restylane. Perlane restores fullness and volume to the skin to correct wrinkles and skin folds in moderate to severe cases. It is also beneficial for correction of facial scarring and lip augmentation. Made from non animal stabilized hyaluronic acid, this gel has no need for skin testing prior to treatment. Hyaluronic acid is an acid that naturally occurs in the body to assist in retaining skins moisture. With aging hyaluronic acid becomes depleted. This filler assists in supplementing the body’s natural supply. Perlane differs from its sister injectable Restylane in that it has a larger concentration of hyaluronic acid, which makes it more suitable for deeper wrinkles and skin folds. Because the levels of hyaluronic acid concentrations, Perlane also costs more than Restylane. This filler lasts longer than most of the currently available temporary dermal fillers, from 6-12 months depending on the area (lips and chin tend to need more frequent touch ups), however is not permanent so repeat injections are needed to keep the results.
Minimal pain is associated with treatments, however some people prefer to have a topical anesthetic applied to the skin 20 minutes prior to the injections. Side effects may include swelling, bruising, redness and pain at injection site, usually diminishing within a few days. The cost of Perlane ranges from $500- $900. |
