Photofacial

Photofacial is an Intense Pulse Light (IPL) treatment.  IPL procedures use a broadband of optical energy with radiofrequency.  Visible light energy is absorbed by the pigment in the surface of the skin to stimulate collagen production.  By delivering light energy that is absorbed by the skin, collagen production is stimulated and redness is decreased. Photofacial is very effective for treating conditions such as pigmentation, rosacea, large pores, spider veins, broken capillaries, sunspots, redness, and non pitted acne scars.  Because the heat energy also stimulates collagen production the results demonstrate a softening in the appearance of aging skin, diminishing fine lines and giving a firmer, tighter look.

Treatment techniques require a cool gel be applied to clean skin and then the cold tip of the Photofacial is touched to the skin as the broad band of light is administered.  The procedure time can take from 20-45 minutes with minimal discomfort and no downtime.  Immediately after treatment the skin may appear red, a completely normal reaction.  4-5 treatments spaced 3-4 weeks apart are generally needed for optimal results.  Some factors, including dark or deeply tanned skin make some people unable to be treated with IPL.  Potential risks of this procedure include blisters, scabs, bruising, and changes in pigmentation, although most of these risks will disappear quickly.  Results are progressive, meaning each treatment builds on itself for better and better outcomes, taking up to 6 months for the final result.   Cost varies depending on the area treated, but are typically between $350- $600 per treatment.
