Polaris
Polaris is a skin tightening device, manufactured by Syneron and FDA approved to treat wrinkles on the face. Polaris combines diode laser energy with radiofrequency to achieve its skin tightening effects, improve skin tone and decrease the appearance of wrinkles. The radiofrequency heats tissue into the dermis to stimulate collagen formation. The heat production causes loose skin to contract and is gentle enough to not harm or burn the tissue. Mild to moderate wrinkles respond best to the skin tightening of this laser. Typically 4-6 treatments are needed to achieve desired results with minimal discomfort and downtime. This treatment is able to work on several skin types but is not recommended for those who have had recent dermal fillers, are on the medication Accutane or have internal pacemakers. Since a deep sense of heat is felt during treatments, topical anesthetic and air cooling systems are often used to minimize these feelings. After treatment patients experience mild redness and mild swelling. Risks include hyper hypopigmentation, scarring, blistering and bruising.
