Radiance

Radiance is a long lasting dermal filler.  The product name has been recently changed by the manufacturer and is now known as Radiesse.  Dermal fillers are products, often in gel form, that are injected under the skin to add volume.  Radiesse/Radiance smoothes facial wrinkles and augments lips for a fuller look. Calcium hydroxyapatite, a substance that has the same mineral component as bone and teeth makes up this injectible solution.  Unlike the dermal fillers of the past, Radiance/Radiesse is non animal based and therefore does not require skin testing prior to treatment.

Treatment with Radiesse requires a physician, or his representative, to insert a small needle under the skin to implant the filler into deep wrinkles.  Once under the skin the body’s own tissue will grow and add volume to the area.  Prior to treatments topical or local anesthetic is used to numb the skin, decreasing discomfort during the injections.

Typically Radiesse/Radiance can last anywhere from two to four years before another treatment is needed.  Side effects for dermal fillers include bruising, swelling, redness and nodule formation typically at the site of injection.  Because Radiesse is a longer lasting filler the manufacturer recommends recipients who have not used fillers before first try one that does not have such an extended results.  The rationale behind this request is to assure the look achieved is acceptable to the patient.  Shorter lasting dermal fillers include Restylane, Juvederm or Perlane.  The cost for this procedure ranges from $600- $1200.
