Radiesse

Radiesse is an injectable dermal filler who original name was Radiance. It is made from calcium hydroxyapatite, a substance that has the same mineral component as bone and teeth. Radiesse is non animal based and therefore does not require skin testing prior to treatment. A small needle is used to implant the filler into deep wrinkles, allowing the body’s own tissue to grow and add volume. Topical and often local anesthetic are used to decrease pain and discomfort during injections. Typically Radiesse can last from 2-4 years. Side effects include bruising, swelling, redness and nodule formation. Radiesse is used to smooth facial wrinkles and augment lips for fuller look. Due to the extensive lasting time of this dermal filler, it is recommended to try one of the dermal fillers that do not last as long, such as Restylane, Juvederm or Perlane before starting with Radiesse to make sure the look achieved is acceptable to the patient. The cost for this procedure ranges from $600- $1200.
