SmoothShapes™ is the FDA approved treatment for temporary reduction in the appearance of cellulite. FDA approved since 2006, the machine was not available for sale until early 2008 to complete clinical testing. Using a technology called Photomology™, the SmoothShapes® treats cellulite and subcutaneous fat by combining two types of laser light with vacuum massage. The laser light liquefies fat, increases cell wall permeability, increases collagen regeneration and circulation. The vacuum allows for efficient action between the tissue and the laser light heats and stimulates the tissue modifying cell activity and restoring normal cell behavior to improve tissue function. Added benefits of this treatment include relief of minor aches, pains, muscle spasms and temporary improvement of circulation.
Treatments are safe, painless, and can be used on all skin types. Treatments resemble a warm deep tissue massage. The typical treatment time for a set of body parts is 20-24 minutes. The best results are seen with a protocol regime of two sessions per week for four weeks. Results reveal smoother tighter skin with a reduction of cellulite in affected areas. MRI studies done after 1 year continue to show improvements in the treated areas. Most patients will need to have maintenance treatments once or twice per year to maintain results. The average cost of SmoothShapes® is $150-$300 per session.
