Tattoo Removal

Tattoo Removal is a fantastic way to remove unwanted tattoos. There are many reasons for possibly wanting to remove a tattoo but the reality is that we all make certain choices in our lives that we eventually may come to regret. While tattoos used to be a permanent problem, now there are several solutions. All of these options vary in execution, but provide similar results for tattoo removal. Tattoo Removal procedures have greatly increased in popularity because they give individuals the opportunity to remove a tattoo they no longer want.

Excision: Excision is a popular method of tattoo removal that should only be used when the tattooed area is small. The Excision procedure involves a full thickness removal of the section of skin where the tattoo lies; this means that both the epidermis and the dermis are removed. The remaining edges of skin are then brought together and sutured. The advantage of using this method on small tattoos is that the entire tattoo can be removed in one treatment whereas larger tattoos may need to be excised in stages.

Dermabrasion: Dermabrasion is a tattoo removal method that involves spraying a small portion of the tattoo with a freezing agent. Once the skin in the tattoo area is frozen, the tattoo is abraded with a rotary abrasive instrument which causes the skin to peel and fall off. After dermabrasion treatment, the skin will heal by growing new layers.

Salabrasion: The Salabrasion procedure is the oldest tattoo removal method that is still used to remove some unwanted tattoos. The procedure involves the tattooed area being injected with a local anesthetic in order to numb the area. Once numb, a solution of tap water dipped in table salt is applied. Similar to Dermabrasion, an abrasion device is then used to vigorously abrade the area covered in this solution. Because tattoo ink can run so deep in the skin, this procedure can lead to permanent scarring.

Laser Tattoo Removal: Laser Tattoo Removal is the newest form of tattoo removal to hit the market and is very similar to other aesthetic laser pigmentation procedures. The laser produces short pulses of intense light that pass through the outer layers of skin and are absorbed by the tattoo pigment below. The energy from the laser causes the tattoo pigment to break apart into smaller particles which are then naturally removed by the body’s immune system. This treatment is revolutionary because it can target the tattoo pigment without doing permanent damage to the surrounding skin. Laser tattoo removal requires a series of treatments, each treatment further fragments the ink by penetrating deeper into the skin.
