Thermage
Thermage®, Inc has patented a monopolar radiofrequency treatment appropriately named ThermaCool NXT. FDA approved since 2000, the tip of the system hand piece keeps the skin surface cool while heating the deep skin layers to make collagen tighten and give skin a younger smoother appearance. Prior to treatments a topical numbing agent is applied to the skin to increase patient comfort. ThermaCool is tolerated by all skin colors and requires no special preparation prior to treatment. The controlled deep heating from this system initiates immediate collagen contraction and stimulates long term collagen remodeling. No downtime is required following the procedure. Thermage® was also FDA approved in 2006 to treat wrinkles anywhere on the body. It is effective for treating several body parts such as abdomen, arms, thighs and buttocks.
After treatment, the skin will have some redness with a slight tenderness, resolving within a few days. Typically results can be seen after 1 or 2 sessions. More serious side effects include blisters, bruising and swelling, which resolve within a few days. Full face treatments take only 40 minutes.
